English George III sterling silver cruet stand by Hester Bateman, oval Neoclassical form with reticulated, guilloche engraved sides and square reserve monogrammed GPW (?), raised on 4 paw feet, with a heart shaped handle. Hallmarked for noted female silversmith Hester Bateman, London, 1780-81, together with two, likely associated, glass bottles having domed, engraved silver lids hallmarked for Hester Bateman, London (Geo. III monarch head, no date letter) and six (6) additional associated bottles. Only one of the additional 6 bottles is hallmarked (for Charles Chesterman, date letter obscured), but 4 of the bottles are very complementary to the Bateman bottles.
PROVENANCE: The collection of Mrs. Alexander McLeod, Nashville.
CONDITION: Maker’s marks on frame show some rubbing, otherwise, the Bateman frame and bottles are all in excellent condition. Other bottles also in generally excellent condition with the exception of the bottle with curved spout, which has chipping to the foot, and one bottle with cut glass stopper which has some tiny fleabites to stopper.
