Virginia stoneware pottery jar stamped " E. W. Mort, Alum Wells VA" and also stamped with a "1" surrounded by a circle. E.W. Mort (1853-1923) was born in Strasburg, VA and potted in Alum Wells, Washington County. Mort ceased making pottery in 1893 and became a Methodist minister. 9" H. Late 19th century. Condition: Overall very good with shallow flake to rim.
