Henri de Toulouse Lautrec (France, 1864-1901) color lithograph, 1898, Moulin Rouge / La Goulue, from Les Maitres de l’Affiche, pl. 122, after the artist’s 1891 poster (Ref.: Delteil 339, Wittrock P1, Adrani 1). The can-can dancers La Goulue (The Glutton) and Valentin le Desosse (Valentin the Boneless) perform on stage at the Montmartre dance hall, Moulin Rouge, with stage lights at left and a crowd beyond shown in silhouette. Printed in 1898 by Impremiere Chaix, Paris, with blind stamp lower right. Printed information on this edition en verso of backing board. Literature: Masters of the Poster, no. 122.
