Leonetto Cappiello (Italian/French, 1875-1942) original lithographic poster in colors advertising Le Nil cigarette rolling papers, Je ne Fume que le Nil (I only smoke Le Nil), 1912. Printed by Vercasson, Paris, with name and address in margin and logo above the word “Papier.” Housed under plexiglass in a black acrylic frame. Sight: 46 1/2 in. H x 62 1/2 in. W. Frame: 49 1/2 in. H x 66 in. W.

PROVENANCE: Private Nashville collection.

CONDITION: Overall very good condition, with strong colors. Poster has been laid to backing. With minor creasing, especially to lower left corner, including 3 inch-long crease to “PA” in “Papier.” Some foxing or staining visible to areas of exposed paper, especially body of elephant. Largest areas to right cheek, 3/4 in x 3/4 in; left leg, 1/2 in x 3/4 in; and right ear, 1/2 in x 1/2 in. Faint toning to margins. Not examined outside of frame.
