GAR uniform belonging to Civil War veteran Stephen Frank Oliver, PVT, "A" Co., Massachusetts, Commander of GAR Post #193 in Avon, Mass. Tag inside coat pocket marked "Oak Hall Clothing Co. Boston", "S. Frank Oliver, Breast 39", Sleeve 18", No 14". Four total items including a double-breasted, dark blue wool coat with bronze buttons, a black wide-brimmed slouch felt hat, with golden wreath insignia and "193", a wool vest, and wool pants. Historical Note: The Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) was a patriotic organization of American Civil War veterans who served in the Union forces, one of its purposes being the "defense of the late soldiery of the United States, morally, socially, and politically." Founded in Springfield, Ill., early in 1866.
CONDITION: All pieces overall good condition.
