Arthur Sarnoff (American, 1912-2000) charcoal and chalk bust-length portrait of President John F. Kennedy. Signed “Arthur Sarnoff” lower right. Linen mat with silvered fillet, under plexiglass in a silvered molded frame. Sight: 16 1/2 in. H x 14 in. W. Frame: 26 in. H x 23 1/2 in. W. Note: Arthur Sarnoff is best known as an illustration artist for McCall’s, Colliers, American Magazine, Esquire, and other periodicals, but he also painted portraits of celebrities, including President and Mrs. Kennedy. Sarnoff was born in Brooklyn. He attended the Industrial School and the Grand Central Art School in New York City. John Clymer and Andrew Wyeth were among his teachers. He was a member of the Society of Illustrators and exhibited at the National Academy of Design.
PROVENANCE: The estate of Robert Estrin, Nashville, TN.
CONDITION: Toning to paper, and a few abrasions to frame, otherwise excellent condition.
