John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) autograph, clipped signature line from a letter to the Hon. Leverett Saltonstall (1892-1979, Governor of Massachussets 1939-1945 and Repulican senior senator from Masschussets from 1945-1967). Kennedy and Saltonstall both represented the state as U.S. Senators from 1953-1960, when Kennedy, the junior senator, became President. Matted and framed under plexiglass along with a 9 in. x 6 in. offset lithograph print of Kennedy’s presidential portrait by Aaron Shikler. Giltwood fillet and frame. Signature window: 4 5/8 in. W x 1 3/8 in. H. Frame: 17 1/2 in. H x 22 1/2 in. W. Note: this lot is accompanied by the original sales documentation from Lone Star Autographs, circa 1992, confirming authenticity and stating that the stationery used contains a partial Whiting’s watermark and that archival framing materials were used.
PROVENANCE: The estate of Robert Estrin, Nashville, ex-Lone Star Autographs, 1992.
CONDITION: Bold signature in black ink, with crease between the first and last name, and two other lighter creases. A few minor errant spatters. Otherwise excellent condition. Not examined out of frame.
