Two (2) U.S. Model 1850 Infantry Field Officer swords, blades with foliate and military motif decoration, brass hilts with pierced foliate design guards, each with maker''s name above ricasso and "Iron Proof" to spine. Includes one (1) C. Roby Chelmsford Mass., wire-wrapped wood grip, with brass mounted leather scabbard with two suspension rings, blade: 31" L, overall: 37" L; one (1) W H Horstmann & Sons Philadelphia, shagreen and wire wrapped grip, with brass mounted metal scabbard with two suspension rings, blade: 30" L, overall: 36" L.
PROVENANCE: Private Knoxville, Tennessee collection.
CONDITION: Oxidation, pitting, and nicks to blades. C. Roby sword with rounded tip and scabbard with areas of loss to leather and tape repair near chape; grip does not retain leather. Horstmann sword with copper plated area near tip, possibly indicating previous repair, and wear and loose wire to grip.
