Two (2) eagle head pommel cavalry swords or sabers with gilt and engraved military motifs and foliate decoration to blades, brass hilts, reverse P shape guards, and carved bone grips. Sword with the carved banded design to grip retains some bluing to blade; comes with an associated leather and brass mounted scabbard with two suspension rings. Sword with scabbard: Blade: 29" L, overall: 35 1/4" L. Other: Blade: 30" L, overall: 35 1/2" L. Both American, likely first half 19th century.
PROVENANCE: Private Knoxville, Tennessee collection.
CONDITION: Areas of oxidation to brass mountings and hilts. Minor scattered scratches and dents to brass mountings and hilt, pitting to blades. Grips loose. Bone grip of sword with banded design has small previous repair, 1/2" L. Later added brass tip to scabbard chape. Brass throat of scabbard is loose.
