Two (2) American eagle head pommel swords. 1st item: Blade decorated with engraved floral and military motifs, including "E Pluribus Unum." Brass hilt with reverse P shape guard. Carved bone grip and eagle head decoration to quillon. Brass scabbard with two suspension rings. Blade: 29 1/2" L. Overall with scabbard: 36" L. 2nd item: Blade decorated with engraved foliate design. Brass hilt with reverse P shape guard. Carved bone grip. Blade: 28 1/2" L. Overall: 34" L. First half 19th century.
PROVENANCE: Private Knoxville, Tennessee collection.
CONDITION: Both blades with light oxidation, nicks, pitting. 1st item: Loose grip and guard. Welded repair to blade near center. Scattered denting to scabbard. 2nd item: 1" x 1/2" area of previous repair to bone grip, replaced with wood. Guard slightly misshapen.
