1st Item: Belgian Model 1880 Engineers’ sawback bayonet in leather scabbard. Straight blade with wide fullers, brass ribbed grip, “Crown over FL” proofs on ricasso and bottom of grip; dated 1887, with marks for Alex Coppel (Solingen), “GB” in an oval, and serial number “351” in the mortised slot. Unit marked: V over 3989 on the crossguard. Scabbard unmarked or obscured. Overall 24 in L (in scabbard), blade 18 in L. Late 19th C. 2nd Item: Prussian enlisted man’s pickelhaube. Black lacquered boiled leather helmet with brass spike, base, spine, visor trim and Prussian eagle front plate; original leather chinstrap and liner. White on white cockade present on left. The front plate is the Prussian Line Eagle with bandeau “Mit Gott Für Koenig Und Vaterland”. 9 in L x 6 in W x 8 in H. Early 20th century.
CONDITION: Bayonet in good overall condition with staining and slight pitting; scabbard leather with crazing and losses. Helmet shell in good overall condition with age wear; rear rib partially detached; right cockade absent; drawstring replaced.
