Archive of items related to the Tennessee Centennial Exposition, including an 1897 Framed and matted Harper’s weekly print of President McKinley’s Visit to the Tennessee Centennial and International Exposition, with a typewritten letter of June 3, 1897 from McKinley’s office secretary (John Addison Porter) inviting a guest to travel with McKinley on his visit to the Exposition. Print measures Sight: 14 1/2 H x 9 1/2 in W; Framed: 21 1/4 in H x 16 in W. Lot also features several period publications about the event including an album of Tennessee Centennial Poems by Annie Somers Gilchrist; an 1896 “Tennessee Centennial Album” containing photos of exhibition buildings and exhibition officers and dignitaries; an 1898 “Art Album of the Tennessee Centennial” containing many photos of the exposition and Nashville area; an 1998 Images of America series photo book of the exposition; an 1968 paperback titled “The Parthenon in Nashville”; an 1996 paperback titled “A Tale of Two Parthenons”; Biography and Memorial of John W. Thomas, President of the Tennessee Centennial Exposition, published in 1906 by Ambrose & Bostelman, Nashville, accompanied by an original ribbon from the Exposition celebrating J.W. Thomas Day, Oct. 28, 1897; a period ribbon celebrating “Alabama Day” Sept. 29, 1897; two (2) silver plated souvenir spoons from the Children’s Building; a souvenir clear and ruby pressed glass cup, dated 1897, also with the name “Everett Absher”; and a small 5 1/2 in oval metal container with an aerial view of the Exposition pasted on either side. Also included is a framed and matted hand-colored period print picturing a procession in the Settlement of Nashville Exposition, from the May 15, 1880 issue of Frank Leslie’s Illustrated Newspaper (Vol 50-1285). CONDITION:
Framed items: overall very good condition with light toning, some wear to frames. McKinley print with “1897” written in pencil to top margin. Books in good, used condition with various points of toning, soiling, and handwriting.
