STAR ATLAS OF THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF VARIABLE STAR OBSERVERS by D.F. Brocchi, Self Published, 1936. 20 charts plus index page and cover page bound with 3 punched holes secured by brass fold-over pins with a paper spine reinforcement. 15" H x 12" W. Includes a laid-in textile print of "Moonscape: Looking South From Gassendi – by Frank Chollar after Russell W. Porter". Note: The American Association of Variable Star Observers (AAVSO) was founded in 1911 for the purpose of monitoring variable stars in a systematic way. Dalmiro Francis Brocchi (1871-1955), an AAVSO member and observer from Seattle, Washington, had taken charge of chart making. Ultimately, over a re,ign of thirty years, Brocchi produced over eight hundred charts at a drafting time of ten to twenty hours per chart. (Hamilton 1948a) As an AAVSO member and observer, and an excellent draftsman by profession, he worked for the Great Northern Railroad.
PROVENANCE: By descent in the historic Pinckney family of Runnymede Plantation, South Carolina.
CONDITION: Very Good condition with some chips to page edges, tear to spine paper cover not affecting charts.
