Chinese black lacquer polychrome painted tall altar stand or table with red and gilt highlights and geometric carved fretwork. Consisting of a square top with polychrome and gilt-painted scenic landscape decoration having a fret-carved frieze, raised on complex geometric pierced carved bracketed legs terminating into a lower shelf raised on carved scrolled feet. Legs with gilt-painted fret and foliate decoration. The lower shelf with polychrome and gilt floral decoration. 35 3/4" H x 18" square. Early 20th century. Provenance: Collection of Thomas M. Alexander, Greeneville, TN, former U.S. Army Captain Airborne/Special Forces during the Late 1960s/Early 1970s in Vietnam. He became a Central Intelligence Agency Field Officer in Southeast Asia, beginning in the Early 1970s until his retirement in 1994.

CONDITION: Overall very good condition with expected light use wear. Top with some infill/putty at one corner seam. Old repaired break to one foot.
