1st item: Possibly Argentinian School Barbizon-style landscape painting depicting an open field beneath an overhanging branch with a small structure and tree to the left, a low wall and tree line in the mid-ground, and rolling hills in the background under a hazy blue sky. Illegibly signed lower right. Housed in a molded wood frame with C-scroll corner and center ornamentation. Sight: 27 3/4" H x 36 7/8" W. Framed: 34" H x 42 7/8" W. 2nd item: Impressionist style painting depicting a Mexican or South American village with a woman sitting at well while a cow drinks beside her, and white stucco architecture in the background. Signed "-Rodrigue-" lower right. Housed in a contemporary wood frame with a linen liner. Sight: 23 3/4" H x 35 1/2" W. Framed: 31" H x 43 1/4" W.
PROVENANCE: The estate of Dr. Thomas Bechtel, Memphis, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Both items in overall good condition. 1st item: Slight warping to canvas. Frame with scattered losses and splitting to wood. 2nd item: Light grime and craquelure.
