Staffordshire figural group depicting boxers (Pugilists), American champ John Carmel Heenan and English champ Tom Sayers in the most famous boxing match of the 19th century, held April 17, 1860. (The fight lasted more than two hours with no knock-outs and both men were declared champions). 9-1/2"H. English, circa 1860. Provenance: a Mississippi estate. Condition: Restoration to Sayers' left arm and chin.
