Philip Perkins (American/Tennessee, 1907-1970), “At-One-Ment,” oil on canvas surrealist influenced abstract painting; freeform reserves of color are suspended above an ethereal blue/green plane, which transitions into a field of rectangles and squares in gradient tones. Whitewashed wood temporary frame, possibly part of a larger frame now missing. Signed “Perkins” lower right and dated 1950, also titled en verso. Canvas: 30 in H x 36 in W. Frame: 30-3/4 in x 36-3/4in.
PROVENANCE:
By descent from the estate of Eugenia Moore, Nashville. Mrs. Moore was a longtime arts supporter in Nashville and a close friend and early patron of Philip Perkins.
CONDITION:
Scattered passages of minor retouching, especially to frame abrasions along edges, largest 1 3/4 inch long. See UV photography. Area of small dimples to canvas upper left quadrant. Frame has wear and some numbers written in marker to exterior edge, with nails extruding.
