Diminutive American grain painted blanket chest, yellow pine; tongue-and-groove and nailed construction with nailed back. Rectangular two-board hinged top with canted moldings over paneled front and sides, on a two-board base with affixed moldings and four turned feet. Interior with till at side with dowel hinged top. 21 1/2" H x 40 1/2" W 17" D. Possibly Southern, Circa 1840. CONDITION: Overall excellent condition, with some wear and scratches throughout, and losses to paint at edges; minor drip stains to front; two water marks to top. Loss of natural knot in wood bottom resulting in hole.
