Five (5) Asian framed artworks, including Japanese prints on fabric and Chinese embroideries. 1st item: Chinese ancestor watercolor, gouache and ink on paper portrait, depicting a matriarch attired in a red robe with tan patterned trim, a crane rank badge to the center, and an elaborate headdress. Seated upon a throne draped with green patterned fabric. Housed under glass and edged with red silk in a giltwood frame. Sight: 45 1/2" H x 17 1/2 W. Frame: 47 1/2" H x 19 1/2" W. Late Qing, late 19th century. 2nd-3rd items: Two (2) framed Japanese printed textile triptychs or groupings of three in the manner of woodblock prints, each depicting figures in elaborate court attire amid various landscape or outdoor pavilion scenes. Three printed textiles with character seal forms to lower right or left corners. The Beveled Edge framer's sticker label en verso of frames. Prints float mounted under glass in vertical groups of three on black mat in chrome-painted wooden frames. Prints (approximate): 9 3/4" H x 7 1/8" W. Sights: 34" H x 9 1/2" W. Framed: 36 3/4" H x 12 1/8" W. Late 19th century. 4th item: Chinese embroidered silk textile rectangular form on cream ground with a mirrored composition comprised of figures lounging in a landscape with pagoda structure, bridge, and flowering branches throughout, bordered by a teal ribbon with repeating character marks all surrounded by a black border with floral design. The Beveled Edge framer's sticker label en verso. Float mounted under glass with a light teal liner in a chrome-painted wooden frame. Sight: 24 3/8" H x 11 1/2" W. Framed: 28 1/2" H x 15 1/2" W. 5th item: Chinese embroidered silk textile rectangular form on cream ground depicting figures amid a waterside landscape with pagodas and bridges, bordered by orange, blue, and geometrically patterned ribbons. Housed under glass in a wooden frame with chrome-painted top edge. Sight: 24 1/8" H x 11 3/8" W. Framed: 26 1/8" H x 13 3/8" W. 4th/5th items Late 19th/Early 20th Century.
PROVENANCE: Estate of Judge John Nixon, Nashville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: 1st item: Overall discoloration and creasing to paper with scattered foxing. Tear to upper right quadrant measuring 4" L. 2nd- 3rd items: All prints in overall good condition with some discoloration fabric and fading of colors; uneven and slightly warped edges, some scattered fraying; likely cut from larger work and regrouped; prints have been laid down on mat. Frame with minor scattered wear to chrome paint. 4th-5th: Both with areas of discoloration to silk and minute scattered losses to threads. 3rd item with partial detachment and slight fraying of ribbon borders.
