Manner of Nicolas Lancret (French, 1733-1808) oval oil on board garden scene with a boy blowing bubbles for two young women in the shade of a large tree and a couple navigating a stairway at right. Unsigned. Housed in a possibly original giltwood frame. First half of 19th century. Sight: 31" H x 25" W. Frame: 38 1/2" H x 34 1/2" W.
CONDITION: Some minor cracking to paint including 1 1/2" crack with overpainting to leftmost woman''s neck and chest and 1/2" crack to stone pier. Retouching and overpainting from multiple restorations including to faces and chests of all three women and to clothing of figures. Largest area to frame abrasion, 5 1/2" x 1/2", lower right edge. See U/V photographs. Frame with abrasions, gilt loss, and cracking, largest crack 2 1/2" L.
