Marta Maas Fjetterstrom (Swedish, 1873-1941) signed hand woven wool tapestry or carpet, featuring cow designs interspersed with stylized patches of grass and flowers on a muted red ground. Geometric border. Signed MMF. Measures 6 ft 6 in x 10 ft 2 in. Note: Marta Maas-Fjetterstrom is regarded as Sweden’s most important mid century textile designer. Her designs paid tribute to Nordic cultural traditions and were often inspired by nature. She began her career as a book illustrator, but earned international attention in 1909 when she was commissioned to design a series of rugs used in the Nobel Prize ceremonies. Today her work is found in museums worldwide including the Louvre, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the National Museum of Stockholm.

CONDITION: Overall good condition, some losses to fringe, even pile wear, patch 3 in upper right quadrant. Professionally cleaned in 2022 and in storage since cleaning.
