19th century presentation cane with 14K gold (tested) handle, engraved to one side "From C & O Railway Employees to T. L. McCreery Y. M., Hinton, W. Va., Jan. 1, 1888". Additionally engraved on the top "J. M. McG 1915". Mounted onto a tapering ebonized wood shaft. 33 1/4" L. Note: The McCreery family was a prominent West Virginia family that brought the C & O railroad to West Virginia after the Civil War.
PROVENANCE: Private Bristol, Tennessee collection.
CONDITION: Gold handle in overall good condition with expected light wear. Ebonized shaft likely shortened, later added rubber tip, minor wear.
