Large Ted Knight (American/Texas, b. 1947) turned spalted elm wood ovoid form vase. Signed, dated 1997, together with wood identification to the base rim. 17 1/2 in. H x approx. 13 1/2 in. W. Biography: Trained as an architect and designer, Ted Knight has devoted nearly four decades to contemporary woodturning. His materials of choice include spalted hackberry, sycamore, mesquite, ponderosa pine, and other native regional woods, known for their unique grain patterns. His speciality is large-scale wooden vessels, made starting with raw logs that can weigh up to 600 pounds and range from 20 to 30 inches in diameter. His works can require up to two years to complete, with the finished products weighing around 15 pounds.
CONDITION: Overall very good condition with no chips, splits, or other defects.
