African Ivory Coast Senufo People low relief carved concave wooden door with vertical hinge decorated with animals, including crocodiles, ancestral portraits, and other symbols. Wired for hanging en verso. 48 1/2" H x 23" W x 1" D. 20th century. Provenance: Deaccessioned from the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art. Note: This door was most likely intended for a sacred place such as the palace of a king and chief, a secret society, or for a community storage facility such as a granary. CONDITION: Overall good condition with wear to be expected from age and manner of use.
