Henri Matisse''s "Jazz" series portfolio published by George Braziller for the Museum of Modern Art in 1983 (a facsimile of the 1947 Teriade for Editions Verve publication). 146 loose text pages including 20 color lithographs, with facsimile of original 1947 limitation page with a facsimile of Matisse''s signature, introduction pages, and table of images, all housed in a publisher''s custom printed gray clamshell box with navy cloth spine and a cardboard slipcase. Lot also includes original Museum of Modern Art shipping box. Pages: 15 3/8" H x 11 3/4" W. Clamshell box: 16"H x 12 3/8" W x 1 1/2" D. Slipcase: 16 3/8" H x 12 1/2" W x 1 3/4" D.
PROVENANCE: The Guardsmark Collection, Memphis, TN. These prints were used to decorate offices throughout the Guardsmark headquarters, noted for its Mid-Century Modern furniture and art. Other framed sets were sold in our July 2021, Jan. 2022, Oct. 2023, and Jan. 2024 auctions.
CONDITION: Overall very good condition, with contents in excellent condition. Clamshell box with minor accretion to upper left of front cover label and two very faint pink lines to cover plus minor abrasions to fore-edge corners and 1/2" x 1/4" accretion to fore-edge.
