Large folio 19th century colored engraving of Boston Harbor with ships, steamers, and figures in the foreground and the city of Boston (including Statehouse) in the background. Entered according to Act of Congress in the year 1857 by B.F. Smith in the District Court of the District of Massachusetts, Smith Brothers and Co. and Sowle and Wards, publishers (New York and Boston); printed by J.W. Hill, engraved by C. Mottram. Giltwood frame. 33" x 44 1/2" engraving, 38" x 53-1/2" framed. Condition: Scattered creases including 4" crease to center sky area. Water stain to upper left margin, mainly affecting margin and edge of print, extending 1" into the plate at the top left corner. Image is hinge mounted (not glued down) and was likely deacidified and archivally framed prior to occurrence of water damage.
