Chinese reverse glass figural landscape painting depicting a group of noblewomen along a shore, some holding flowering branches or precious objects and one seated behind a desk, each having red character marks to the side. A windowed, red building is depicted to the right with a walled complex, retreating paths, and additional buildings along a body of water in the midground and a pagoda on a distant shore in the background. Unsigned. Housed in a stacked, ebonized, and reeded wood frame with C-scroll hardware to top edge. Sight: 19" H x 28/ 3/4" W. Framed: 22 1/2" H x 32 1/4" W. Late 19th/early 20th century.
CONDITION: Overall good condition with minor scattered losses to paint layer, particularly at top edge, largest measuring 3/4" x 1/4"; slight discoloration of glass, especially at edges. Frame with scattered areas of loss, largest measuring 2" x 1/8"; inner frame with scattered splitting/separation. Loss of one C-scroll hanger.
