1st item: Sheraton Card or Game Table, mahogany with pine secondary. Serpentine top over a conforming skirt with flame veneers and plain raised central tablet, canted corners with four spiral twist carved legs having ring and flattened ball turned capitals and feet, and fluted panels to skirt over rear legs. Rear fly leg supports the hinged leaf to form a larger table, with beaded molding to one half of the table top. Brass caps to feet. American or English. 28 in. H x 35 in. W x 17 1/2 in. D. Circa 1825. 2nd item – late Sheraton-style mahogany mirror of similar design, having a reeded cornice with acorn drops, over a frieze with carved raised branch or seaweed design, brass rosettes over fluted panels, spiral carved pilasters with compressed ball and ring turnings at each end and along the lower section of the frame. Rectangular looking glass with a replaced upper panel depicting a bowl of flowers, painted in oils—brass rosettes at lower corner blocks. The back of the mirror is signed in chalk, possibly A. Turner. 40 in. H x 23 in. W x 4 in. D. American, circa 1825.
PROVENANCE: The estate of Eleanor Jacobs, Nashville, TN.
CONDITION: Table: Excellent condition, later finish, a few small abrasions to legs. Missing glue blocks underneath. Mirror: Repair to upper left corner of cornice. Original eglomise panel has been lost and replaced with an oil painting of flowers. Mirror with some white streaks—scattered abrasions and losses, mostly to pilasters on left side.
