English cellaret, or case and bottles, mahogany and mahogany veneer, with contrasting string inlay to edges, diamond inlaid escutcheon, and oval inlay to front. Domed top lifts to reveal an interior fitted for 8 bottles, with a raised divider. Square legs taper to brass feet and castors. Working lock and key. 22 3/4 in. H x 21 1/2 in. W x 12 1/2 in. D. 19th century.
PROVENANCE: The estate of Dr. Ian M. Mathison, Murfreesboro TN and Big Rapids, MI.
CONDITION: Overall good condition, with horizontal cracks in veneer along left and right sides, and an old repair to the back left leg. Some loss to the bottom interior panel in the center, consistent with use.
