English, second quarter of the 19th century.
PROVENANCE: The estate of Dr. Ian M. Mathison, Murfreesboro TN and Big Rapids, MI.
CONDITION: Overall good condition. Some ink staining to interior under lid. May have once had wooden dividers inside the top shallow storage well. The writing surface has later baize and is missing a mechanism to hold the surface upright. Center drawer has a carved cutaway to right side that may have been a later modification. Metal wash basin with possible later interior paint. No keys present.
