Jean Jules Cambos (French, 1828 – 1917), a large bronze sculpture depicting the Biblical figure David holding a sword and standing on a round base with his sling shot beneath his feet. Base with foundry mark reading “Bronze Garanti au Titre Paris” and inscribed signature J. Cambos. Base with brass plaque reading “David Medaille d’Or”. 33 in. H x 20 1/2 in. W. Late 19th/Early 20th century. Biography: Jean-Jules Cambos entered L’Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris in 1853 and exhibited at the Paris Salon beginning in 1857. He received several government commissions and was awarded a gold medal at the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1889.
PROVENANCE: The collection of Mr. and Mrs. David Allen, Springfield, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Overall good condition with a few very minor scattered abrasions.
