Dutch Marquetry inlaid card or game table, mahogany, featuring foldover top with turret corners, the exterior of the top having center inlaid urn and floral foliate designs flanked by inlaid birds, and the corners with inlaid butterflies. Top opens to an interior with old baize covering, inlaid with playing cards at each molded circular corner. Lower drawer with nailed construction and floral and foliate inlay to exterior along with engraved brass batwing hardware and bail pulls. Lower shaped apron and curved sides with floral and foliate inlay. Four Queen Anne style cabriole legs with floral and foliate inlay, ending in slipper feet. One leg swings back to support the open top. 15 1/8 in. W (30 1/4 in. open) x 28 3/4 in. H x 15 1/8 in. D. Continental, 19th century.
PROVENANCE: The Collection of Dr. James and Rebecca Whicker, Knoxville, TN.
CONDITION: Exterior top surface with old inlay patches to outer edge, interior urn foliate design with minimal losses and light lifting. Right side inlaid foliate and flower tablet design with repairs, both sides with old losses and repairs to inlaid tablet perimeters. Back swing leg support with later repair. Interior felt surface with wear and losses. Lock missing, engraved brasses old but not original.
