Two (2) Venetian style cut crystal girandoles or sconces with scrolling S-curve arms issuing from iron backplates, terminating in floral cups and frosted glass bobeches, ornamented with crystal swags and drops throughout and having umbrella-form frosted glass ornament with crystal drops hung from base, including one (1) four-armed sconce with three spiral curved accent plumes issuing from backplate and one (1) five-armed sconce with arms of alternating length and height and a central shaft surmounted by additional bobeche and cup (not retained). Four-armed sconce approx. 16" H x 33" W x 18" D; five-armed sconce approx. 23 1/2" H x 31" W x 19" D. European, late 19th century.
PROVENANCE: The Collection of Michael and Peggy Mahoney, by descent from the historic homes of Clarkland Farm at Bryan's Station and Cherrycote, Lexington, Kentucky.
CONDITION: Both items with scattered minor fleabites and scratches to crystal throughout, surface residue to cups, and slight oxidation and wear to mountings. Five-armed girandole with scattered losses and hairlines including loss of topmost cup; three bobeches and two crystal drops have been replaced; one bobeche with repaired crack and losses; one bobeche with minor loss.
