Folk Art reverse glass painted Bird's Eye View of New York, after the very scarce print by Parsons and Atwater, published 1875 by Currier and Ives. The scene depicts New York and Brooklyn, with Jersey City and the Hoboken Water Front, with a variety of boats traversing the area's waterways, and an operational Brooklyn Bridge (six years prior to its actual completion in 1883). Possible signature OW or DW lower left. Sight: 20 1/2"W x 15 1/2". Molded wood frame: 22 1/2"H x 17 1/2"W. First half 20th century.
PROVENANCE: Private Middle Tennessee collection.
CONDITION: Overall good condition with some minute losses to paint, particularly at edges, and fine craquelure.
