Signed French Louis XVI style Chinoiserie-decorated commode, atelier Marcel Mathelin, Paris, with blue/black lacquer ground and polychrome figural landscape decoration attributed to artist Edouard Degaine (1887 – 1967). The commode features gilt bronze mounts to the case and leg edges, two dovetailed drawers having round ring pulls and keyhole escutcheons with bows, on tapered straight legs and surmounted by a shaped deep rouge marble top. Dated 1915 and monogrammed ED in red to the commode''s left side, also stamped to the top corners below the marble MARCEL MATHELIN PARIS 1915 and "E. Degaine" 40 1/8" H x 49 3/4" W x 22 1/4" D.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Richard J. Eskind, Nashville.
CONDITION: Overall very good condition with minor scattered pinpoint size abrasions, mostly to the lower right edge. Some minor losses to veneer around drawer edges.
