Five-gallon stoneware pottery jar stamped “J. Weaver,” for John Weaver working in Beaver, PA, circa 1860-1865. Brushed cobalt floral decoration, cobalt highlights on the maker’s mark, incised “5” denoting capacity, and applied 3-inch lug handles having cobalt accents. 15 in. H.
PROVENANCE: The estate of Mary Ann McCabe of Winnetka, Illinois, ex-Ruth K Flowers estate auction, Leslie Hindman, Chicago, 1993.
CONDITION: Overall very good condition with a very tight hairline on back of jar starting at the lower third of the side wall going into the base a few inches.
