Miniature watercolor portrait painting of "Mr. Anderson," oval, depicting a dark-haired gentleman with blue eyes in a black jacket with white cravat. Pencil inscription reads "A Mr. Anderson of whom we know nothing" en verso of portrait (exterior). Housed under glass in an ebonized wood frame with gilt oval opening. Circa 1810. Sight: 2 1/2" H x 2" W. Frame: 5" H x 4 1/2" W.
PROVENANCE: Property of the Lincoln County Museum, Fayetteville, TN; Bequest of Mary Bright Wilson (1909-2004), formerly of Fayetteville, and descended in her family.
CONDITION: 1/8" hairline upper left, faint 1/4" scratch lower left across background extending into suit with 1/8" area of paint loss just below. Portrait sits slightly crooked in frame, exhibiting wear to paint along the outermost edges.
