1st & 2nd items: Two East Tennessee stoneware pottery cobalt decorated cream pots attributed to the Decker pottery of Washington County (1832 – 1914), each with three-petal flowers on three sides. and measuring 8 in. H. 3rd item: Southwest Virginia stoneware pottery jar stamped ” E. W. Mort, Alum Wells, VA” and also stamped with a “1” surrounded by a circle. E.W. Mort (1853-1923) was born in Strasburg, VA, and potted in Alum Wells, Washington County, VA. Mort ceased making pottery in 1893 and became a Methodist minister. 8 3/4 in. H. All pieces Late 19th century.
PROVENANCE: The collection of Marty and David Black, Rockford, TN.
CONDITION: 1st & 2nd items: One jar has a tight hairline from the rim to the base, along with chipping to the rim, and the second jar has glued hairlines from the rim to the underside of the base, together with a couple of chips to the rim. 3rd item: Scattered minor fleabites to the rim and base.
