Southern crib quilt, hand stitched pieced and embroidered cotton, featuring stars in blocks and embroidered with a partial verse from the Bible hymn "When We Walk With the Lord" (also known as "Trust and Obey," by John H. Sammis, published 1887). Blue and white gingham backing. 37" H x 47" W. Note: according to the oral history of the Middle Tennessee family in which this quilt descended, it was made by an African American woman who worked for the family during the late 19th or early 20th century.
PROVENANCE: The collection of Allison and John Beasley, Nashville, TN.
CONDITION: Overall good condition with moderate amount of scattered, very light grime and some wear at edging.
