Southern, likely Tennessee, red and white hand-pieced and quilted quilt, Irish chain pattern. Constructed of red, blue, and white cotton prints with some conversation prints including dog heads, crossed swords, stripes, flowers, and stars. Lightweight cotton batting and cotton quilting thread with a machine-applied binding and off-white cotton backing. 75 in. x 75 in. Circa 1890.
PROVENANCE: The estate of John Z. C. Thomas, Knoxville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Very good, condition with minor yellowing along fold lines visible on top. Some visible water stains.
