Blue and white cotton quilt, possibly West Virginia, with exceptional hand piecing and hand quilting; central diamond and square medallion on a blue field, and sawtooth borders throughout. Feathered circles quilted in the large center panel and diagonal parallel quilting throughout. Constructed with white cotton thread and cotton batting. The binding on three sides is back to front and on the fourth side, a separate binding is applied by machine. 75 in. L x 79 in. W. Circa 1930.
PROVENANCE: The estate of John Z. C. Thomas, Knoxville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Spotting to one edge on white on the quilt front, otherwise overall good condition. A bit of whimsy “mistake” – quilt maker’s error upper left border. Some spotting on the backside.
