Southern, likely North Carolina, hand pieced and embroidered quilt, “King David’s Crown” pattern, consisting of 20 blocks, 2 in. inner blue border, 2 in. middle red border, a 2 1/2 in. outer tan border, and 1/4 in red binding separately applied on all four sides. Backing is a tan medium weight cotton as used on the top. Red, dark teal, and tan cotton fabrics on a cream ground, thin cotton batting, and hand quilted in parallel lines within the borders. The quilting follows the design of the blocks. Insets are connected with the crown in a red wool yarn x. Embroidered on one border by hand in cotton MW. AGD 60. and dated Feb. 1879. 71 in. x 84 in.
CONDITION: Overall very good condition, with one minute stain to the back. Slight fading of the binding on one side.
