Sheraton walnut sugar chest of diminutive size, poplar wood secondary. Consisting of a plain hinged top with an angled step molding over a post and a solid panel case with a lower dovetailed drawer with wooden pulls. Upper well with a thin center divider. Brass escutcheons for upper well and lower drawer. Back with an inset panel. Case rests on turned Sheraton feet with the rear feet tips retaining a black surface. 26 in. W x 16 in. D x 30 3/8 in. H. Attributed to Kentucky, circa 1835.
CONDITION: Older refinish, paneled sides with wood-filled split running through the center on both sides. Very minor insect damage to the lower edge of the inset panel on the back of the chest. Darker stain spatter on the front of the case. Very minor scuffs and abrasions on feet and less on case.
