Benjamin Franklin Perkins (Alabama, 1904-1993) oil on canvas outsider art painting depicting Lady Liberty on a starred blue background adorned in a yellow garment with banners reading "Miss Liberty Welcomes Those Persecuted, Sick, Hungry, To The Land of Liberty to Pursue Happiness, Business, Opportunity, Education, Place to Live, Occupation, Vacation, Military Service, This Is America". Signed and dated "6-27-90 B-F-P". Housed and float mounted in a wood frame. Sight: 32 1/2" H x 20 1/2" W. Framed: 35 1/4" H X 23 3/4" W. Note: Reverend Benjamin F. Perkins joined the U.S. Marines at age 17 and was eventually stationed to protect President Coolidge. He later returned to Alabama and became a part time preacher. While taking an art course at a junior college, he discovered an affinity for art. Patriotic motifs and Bible stories were frequent themes in his work.
PROVENANCE: The personal collection of former Folk/Outsider Art dealer Jamie Teal, Nashville, Tennessee; acquired directly from the artist.
CONDITION: Overall very good condition with light grime. Light wear to frame.
