Southern Federal figured cherry inlaid chest of drawers of narrow proportions with a later walnut sixteen-pane bookcase top. Federal chest with an ogee molding over four graduated dovetailed drawers with scratch-beading and inlaid escutcheons. Poplar secondary. Thin ogee molded base molding with shaped bracket feet and a shaped apron having an inlaid diamond star of four points. Later walnut bookcase top with a canted molding over two cabinet doors with 16 panes and a quarter-round base molding. Three interior shelves align with window mullions. Yellow pine secondary. Chest of drawers: 35 in. L x 17 3/8 in. W x 43 1/4 in. H. Bookcase top: 39 1/8 in. L x 13 1/2 in. W x 49 1/4 in. H. Chest of drawers possibly Greene Co., TN, circa 1810. Bookcase top likely Southern, circa 1840.
PROVENANCE: Estate of Donna C. Rogers, Greeneville, TN.
CONDITION: Federal chest with an older refinish. Replaced brass pulls, retains locks. Bottom drawer front slightly bowed. Facings of left foot with separations but retained. Case with minor scratches. Bookcase top overall very good condition.
