Sheraton Sugar Chest with figured maple primary and poplar secondary woods. Rectangular hinged top with breadboard ends and a half-round molded edge over a dovetailed case with divided interior. Base with an ogee molding over a dovetailed drawer with three interior dividers creating six sectons. Case rests on four tapered turned legs terminating in a compressed ball. 32 in. H x 30 in. W x 17 in. D. Possibly Tennessee, Circa 1835.
PROVENANCE: Private Middle Tennessee Collection.
CONDITION: Older refinish with replaced hinges and replaced top strip along backboard approx. 1/2″, older replaced ogee mid-molding, drawer pulls old but possibly not original. Lower drawer side edges slightly built up. Scattered minor stains to top, and minor shrinkage and abrasions throughout. Signs of old powder post beetle trails to back. Wear and abrasions to feet. Missing locks and escutcheon.
