Miniature Middle Tennessee (Marshall County) cherry, cherry veneer, and maple veneer columned bureau or chest, poplar secondary. Consisting of a rectangular top with molded edges, light and dark banded drawer over two receding graduated banded drawers, turned columns with rope and pineapple-type carving over turned and carved feet. False escutcheons and replaced brass pulls. 14 1/2 in. H x 11 3/4 in. W x 8 1/2 in. D. Circa 1835 – 1845. Note: This chest is featured in the book “The Art & Mystery of Tennessee Furniture,” page 218, figure 286.
PROVENANCE: Private Middle Tennessee Collection.
CONDITION: Older refinished surface and replaced pulls. Very minor putty repair to the top. Some minor wood shrinkage noted on a couple of drawer edges. A couple of veneer patches to drawer fronts. Dovetails on the drawers possibly reworked/repaired.
