Two (2) Piedmont, North Carolina, salt-glazed stoneware pottery jugs stamped J.M.HAYS for James Madison Hayes (Randolph County, 1832-1922). 1st item: Ovoid form with pulled handle applied to the middle shoulder and neck. Stamped J.M.HAYS on the upper shoulder with two incised bands below the neck. 9 1/2" H. 2nd item: Ovoid form jug stamped J.M.HAYS and 1 on the upper shoulder denoting the gallon capacity, and two incised rings below the neck highlighted by a salt-glaze drip. 12" H. Last half 19th century.
CONDITION: 1st Item: Overall excellent condition. 2nd Item: Restored handle and two shallow chips to the rim.
