Three (3) small Peti Clements (Alabama, 1911-1999) Black Americana folk art acrylic on board paintings depicting figures engaged in various scenes of everyday life in the rural south. 1st item: Painting depicting a street scene including a general store adorned with advertisements having seated figures playing checkers, a woman standing at the front door, a child with an umbrella, and two figures conversing at the crossroads flanked by trees all beneath a blue sky. Signed "Peti Clements" lower right. "Petites by Peti' sticker label, en verso. Housed in a carved wooden frame with gilt sight edge. Sight: 4 1/2" H x 6 1/2" W. Framed: 8" H x 10" W. 2nd item: Painting depicting a black woman in a red hairwrap gazing at a large quilt with a rooster in the foreground beneath a clear blue sky. Signed "Peti Clements" lower left. "Petites by Peti" sticker label, en verso. Housed in a giltwood frame. Sight: 4 1/2" H x 5 1/2" W. Framed: 6 3/8" H x 7 1/2" W. 3rd item: Painting depicting five young girls seated in a semi-circle on the ground eating slices on watermelon with whole watermelons lined up in front of them. Signed "Peti Clements" lower right". Housed in a wooden frame. Sight: 2 1/4" H x 9 1/4" W. Framed: 3 3/4" H x 10 3/4" W. Note: Peti Clements was a female African American folk artist. She was raised on a rural Alabama farm and many of her paintings depict scenes of her early everyday life. Her work is represented in the permanent collection of the Tennessee Valley Art Museum, Tuscumbia, AL.
CONDITION: All items in overall very good condition. Frames with minor scattered surface wear.
