Pair of Federal Period Inlaid Armchairs, possibly Virginia, primary wood appears to be cherry, each having curved crest- and mid-rails with inlaid star, the mid-rails with additional inset reeded panels; curved and splayed square tapered arms over turned armrests transitioning into block and turned tapered front legs with inverted turned and tapered feet; and caned seat with vines and blossoms at center rail and side blocks. The slightly raking rear legs are joined to the front legs by a square H form stretcher. 32 in H x 20 1/2 in W x 19 in D. Circa 1820.
PROVENANCE: By descent in a family originally from the Richmond, Virginia area.
CONDITION: One chair with repaired break and patching to rear of crest rail and in need of repair to caned seat. Other chair with repaired split to rear leg and rear stiles. Both with other minor repairs/stabilizations, wear and abrasions. Later surfaces.
